APhA Hugo H. Schaefer Award Recognizing

A former pharmacy manager at Walgreens, Marie D’Angelo has a passion for looking after patients suffering from chronic diseases. An expert in biological therapies, Marie D’Angelo has maintained membership with the American Pharmacists Association since 2010.

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) is America’s largest pharmacist association, bringing together professionals with the aim of advancing the pharmacy profession. In an effort to recognize outstanding professionals, APhA presents numerous awards, including the Hugo H. Schaefer Award, which traces its origins back to 1964. The award was named after a long-time APhA treasurer who made outstanding lifetime contributions to the pharmacy profession.

Award nominees must be APhA members who have provided excellent voluntary contributions to the pharmacy profession, the APhA, and society in general. The annual deadline for nominations is September 10. The nominator should write a letter sharing details of their nominees’ key achievements and why they’re most suitable for the award. The APhA Board of Trustees is tasked with the selection process, which involves an in-depth review of all nominations.

The award ceremony takes place at the APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition, where the winner receives a medal that has an image that resembles Hugo H. Schaefer set on a wooden base, which is inscribed with the winner’s name and the presentation date.
